On Tuesday night, Vice President Harris commanded the stage on every single issue that matters to the American people.
Americans saw exactly what kind of president Kamala Harris will be: one who offers a New Way Forward for the country, who will be a president for all Americans, and who will turn the page once and for all on the darkness and division of Donald Trump.
While much of the focus the past few days has rightly been on Vice President Harris' commanding win, it shouldn't be lost in the shuffle that Trump took at least five toxic positions on the debate stage:
- Trump was pressed on whether he would veto a national abortion ban, and he wouldn't answer - that's because he wants a national abortion ban.
- Trump refused to acknowledge that he lost the 2020 election - a big lie that led to the January 6 attack on the Capitol. It remains a toxic issue for voters, and Trump made it even worse by doubling down on the debate stage.
- He proudly lumped himself with the January 6 rioters, referring to the group as "we" in front of nearly 70 million viewers.
- After trying repeatedly as president to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which is overwhelmingly popular, he doubled down on the debate stage - saying he still wants to end the ACA. This could end preexisting condition protections, eliminate Medicaid expansion, and destroy the health care marketplace where more than 21 million Americans access health coverage.
- He refused to say Ukraine should win the war against Russia - showing how weak Trump would make America on the world stage, caving to dictators and tyrants and abandoning our allies and partners.
The voters who will decide this election are repulsed by positions like these, and Trump's answers on these issues under the bright lights of the debate stage will come back to haunt him in November.
